Porting a watch game to a second platform is one of the most thankless jobs in games. The audience is already tiny, the toolchains are different, and doing the work twice earns you almost nothing in extra downloads. So most developers pick one wrist and stop there.
We went through the whole catalog looking for the exceptions: games you can install on an Apple Watch and a Wear OS watch. Out of hundreds of titles, exactly nine make the jump. That is not many, which is exactly why the studios who pulled it off deserve a nod.
Here they are, the proven ones first, then the newer arrivals still finding their footing.
Full disclosure: two of these nine are ours. We have flagged them clearly so you can judge the rest on their own merits.
The proven ones
Wrist Chess by Lukas Kusik is the standout of the whole list, and it is not close. At 4.5 stars across roughly 1,500 ratings, it is one of the best-reviewed watch games we track on either platform. It connects to Lichess, so you are playing real games against real people from your wrist, not a toy AI. If you try one game here, make it this one.
Then there is Tocapp Games, who quietly did more cross-platform work than almost anyone. Three of the nine are theirs:
- Touch Round is a reflex game about nailing the fastest lap. At 3.7 stars and nearly 5,000 ratings, it is the most-rated title on this entire list.
- Air Hockey Wear is exactly what it sounds like. Swipe to move your paddle, first to seven goals wins. 3.8 stars, and it works on a small screen.
- Jellyfish Tap is a colorful tap-and-jump timekiller for when you are waiting on coffee. 3.7 stars.
None of these will win game of the year, but they are real, playable, and they run on both wrists. That is more than most of the catalog can say.
The newer arrivals
The next batch is on both platforms too, but new enough that they have not gathered ratings yet, so we are listing them honestly rather than dressing them up.
zbd is the other studio that went all in, with three ports of its own. Gate of Anatolia (published on Apple under the name Zubeyir Berkay Kucuk) pitches a historical dark-fantasy adventure set in the year 1071, which is a lot to promise on a watch screen. Race To End swings the other way with fast, retro arcade racing. And Wet Watch is a puzzler that keeps things minimal. Three very different swings from one developer, all shipped on both platforms.
And the two that are ours, in the spirit of that disclosure up top. Wrist Words is a fast word game, and Wrist Bubbles is a radial bubble shooter we built from scratch for the wrist. Both are new, both are unrated, and both ship on Apple Watch and Wear OS. We put ourselves through the same dual-platform grind we are praising everyone else for, so it felt dishonest to leave them off.
Why the list is this short
If you have ever switched from Android to iPhone, or you own a Wear OS watch while your partner has an Apple Watch, you know the frustration: your games do not come with you, and the whole catalog resets. These nine are the only titles that survive the jump.
The reason the list is so short is the reason it is worth writing about. Watch gaming is small and scattered, and shipping on both platforms means two toolchains, two review processes, and two builds to maintain, all for an audience that is still tiny. Tocapp Games and zbd did it three times each. Lukas Kusik built the best game on the list. That is real work for little reward, and it is worth calling out.
We would love this list to get longer. If you are a developer with a watch game on one platform and you have been on the fence about porting it, this is the short, uncrowded end of the pool. There is room here, and not many people willing to swim in it.
Ratings are from the app stores at the time of writing and can change. We catalog and rank watch games for both Apple Watch and Wear OS.
